What is Anne's Kits for Kids?

Anne’s Kits for Kids is an Elkhart-area program that operates within Concord Community Schools that provides necessary building-block reading, motor skills, memory, and math tools to under-served area children in the Concord Schools. Anne’s Kits operates on the idea that simple childhood educational games & books (like Dr. Seuss & Candy Land) are essential learning tools that create a strong foundation for lifelong educational success! Every kit costs around $75 to assemble, so every calendar purchase goes a long way to create each kit!

How does Anne's Kits for Kids work?

Anne’s Kits for Kids is wholly self-supported through generous donations by people like you and through hundreds of hours volunteered by teachers, parents, administrators, students, and community members.  Since starting the program at Concord West Side School in 2007 Anne’s Kits has evolved and grown to provide learning strategies to parents and their children covering reading, language, math, memory and motor skills.  After attending several evening sessions with their parent(s), each child takes home their very own “kit” filled with books, educational games, learning exercises, physical fitness items AND a written promise from Mom or Dad to work together on a regular basis toward a great school experience!

How did Anne's Kits start?

Anne Longenbaugh was 22 and a newly-graduated teacher when she died in 2005. Anne’s mother Christine, along with her colleagues, first conceived of Anne’s Kits as a way to address a need in their school and to honor her daughter’s memory. Christine’s co-workers, friends, and family have continued Anne’s Kits after her death in 2006 following a long battle with cancer.

Helping our community’s children is a fitting memory to Chris & Anne, both of whom left our midst with the desire to serve & educate our community’s youth still alive in their hearts.
